On Friday, January 25th, the State House approved WPC's Local Choice/ Local Option bill—EHB 1551—allowing local towns and counties to create their own programs of public financing for campaigns for local office.

After a record-setting 40 minutes of debate, the vote was 56-38 in favor. Details of how your legislator voted

NOW we need the State Senate to do likewise! Contact YOUR state senator. Urge him or her to support Senate approval for the Local Choice/Local Option bills.

The senate will vote very soon on Senator Franklin's bill, SSB5278.

Overall, we want approval of Local Choice/Local Option, this year!
The bill is NOT a mandate - only permission. No state funds are involved. And, any local program must be approved in a referendum to local voters.

Note to WashClean supporters:
If possible, we would like to avoid the bill having to go back to the House, to adjust any minor differences in language. We don't want to risk losing a win, or unravelling of success, because of minor differences in bill language between the Senate and the House.
